• This scholarship program is catered exclusively for the lower income families.

  • Name of scholarship: Genting Sanyen Power Sdn Bhd Scholarship Award 2011.

Field of study: Genting Sayen Power Sdn Bhd is offering scholarships to students pursuing programmes at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman in the following:

Foundation (RM13,000 per annum),

Degree in Information Technology (RM16,000 per annum),

Degree in Accounting (RM16,000 per annum). 

Eligibility: Requirements for Degree:

1. Must be a Malaysian Citizen.

  • Name of scholarship: HSBC Scholarship Awards 2011: 

Field of study: No restriction. 

Eligibility: Malaysian students who will be pursuing full-time first-degree studies in 2011, in a recognised local public or private university or college (inclusive of local twinning programmes).

This scholarship award is not open to children of employees of HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad, HSBC Amanah Takaful (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and HSBC (Malaysia) Trustee Berhad.

Age group: Below 25 years of age Academic - SPM Minimum 7 distinctions Academic - STPM Minimum 2As and a pass in the General Paper Academic – Diploma / Matriculation / Foundation Minimum CGPA 3.5 Scholarship duration Whole duration of the programme /course (must be done locally). 

Value of scholarship: Scholarship amount

1. Local private university or college - RM10,000 per annum .

2. Local public university or college - RM8,000 per annum.

Application format: Studies criteria:

1. Full-time degree studies

2. Only students who are pursuing their first degree

3. Must have gained admission into a recognised local public or private university or college

4. For twinning programmes, the full duration of the programme must be done locally

5. No restriction on field of studies.

2. Combined monthly household income is RM2,500 and below

3. Applicants must not be in receipt of any other scholarship, or award from any educational institutions, or any other organisations / foundation

4. Education loan is permissible if the scholarship amount is not sufficient to cover tuition fees

5. Successful applicants must be able to maintain a CGPA of 3.30 or equivalent throughout the duration of his/her studies.

  • Name of scholarship: BRITISH COUNCIL IELTS SCHOLARSHIP (Abroad). 

Field of study: No restriction. 

Eligibility: Be a Malaysian national or a Malaysian resident with a valid passport.

Begin undergraduate or postgraduate study outside Malaysia in 2011 expected to attend a higher education institution that accepts IELTS as part of its admission requirements, take an IELTS exam at a British Council IELTS centre after 1 February 2011 have a valid IELTS score, with a minimum overall band score of 6.5.

Applicants should also:be willing to attend a panel interview and assessmentbe able to provide an original copy of the acceptance letter from the higher educational institution they have applied for. 

Value of scholarship: $3500.

  • Name of scholarship: Yayasan KLK Scholarships. 

Field of study: No restriction. 

Eligibility: Malaysian who has gained admission to a local government university/institute of higher learning including employees children of KLK Group of Companies.

Good academic results and active participation in extra-curricular activities.

Willing to serve a bonded period of three years from date of appointment.

Willing to undergo internships within the KLK Group of Companies every year during university vacations.

Any current 1st or 2nd year (of 4-year courses) students with a minimum CGPA of 3.5 are also eligible.

Not bonded, holding any other scholarship or receiving financial assistance from any organisation. 

Value of scholarship: Degree - RM 8,000 per academic year Diploma (Only for Agriculture or related subjects) - RM 5,000 per academic year.

Graduate list of scholarships

  • Name of scholarship:2012-2013 FULBRIGHT MALAYSIAN GRADUATE STUDY AND RESEARCH PROGRAM. 

Field of study: Preference will be given to those proposals which are consistent with MACEE’s overall thematic approach for Fulbright awards, emphasizing these 5 general areas of study:

American Studies, Malaysian Studies, Islamic Studies, Comparative Religion, Economics and Technology Transfer Issues in Contemporary Society, International Relations.

However, students applying for any other field of study than those mentioned above are encouraged to apply, as all highly qualified applicants will be considered. Students applying for MBA should take note that preferences are given to other fields of study. 

Eligibility and award criteria:To be considered for selection under this program, students shall:

1. Possess Malaysian citizenship.

2. Be no more than 35 years of age at the time of application.

3. Applicant above 35 years of age will be considered on a case to case basis.

4. Be in good health.

5. Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with Honors (hons.) and cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or its equivalent.

6. Must have a TOEFL score of at least 100 (internet based test) on a test taken no more than two years prior to the time of application (note: certain fields and/or institutions may require a higher score).

7. Must have a GMAT, GRE, GRE subject test with minimum score as required by the institution of your choice.

8. Please check with programs or universities that you are planning to apply about the required test.

9. Be available for interview in Kuala Lumpur.

10. Be prepared to return to Malaysia immediately upon completion of study.

The Following Individuals Are Not Eligible:

1. Individuals who are or have already been enrolled in a graduate degree program at an American university and who seek nomination in order to complete said program.

2. Individuals who seek nomination in order to complete a second masters degree or doctoral degree.

3. Individuals who intend to pursue internship, residency or research at a U.S. school of medicine, nursing, dentistry or veterinary medicine.

4. Individuals who are working or currently studying in USA. To be eligible, applicants MUST have returned to Malaysia at least ONE year before the announcement date (March 1st, 2011) for this award.

Value of scholarship: Awards will be partial grants or otherwise require cost-sharing from the candidate's home institution, scholarships or other funding from the admitting university or from personal resources.

While awards may be full grants, the category and amount of any specific award will be based upon available funding and other criteria as determined by the Academic committee during the selection process.

All decisions regarding category and amount of grant shall be final. Similarly, the amount of renewal funding shall be contingent upon financial circumstances affecting the Commission.

For graduate degree grants, efforts will be made to retain funding levels from the first to the second year. However, students should not assume this will take place.

A complete application includes:

1. Four (4) copies of application form with photograph.

2. Four (4) certified true copies of university transcript(s) for all years of academic study.

3. Four (4) certified true copies of degree certificates from all institutions attended.

4. Four (4) certified true copies of TOEFL/GMAT/GRE score reports.

5. Three (3) letters of reference. Letter of reference is confidential and hard copy should be in a sealed envelope.

6. Four (4) photographs. Most universities will require that all graduate students (regardless of field of study) included a thesis abstract or research paper (translated into English) that was completed during previous university-level studies. (Please attach 4 copies if any).

7. Students are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to meet an educational advisor at MACEE for admission information into American Universities.


  • Name of scholarship: 2012-2013 FULBRIGHT MALAYSIAN SCHOLAR PROGRAM. 

Field of study: Research / Lecturing. 

Eligibility and award criteria: Applicants must have the following qualifications:

1. A Malaysian citizen.

2. Doctoral degree or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application.

3. Minimum five years working experience in the relevant field.

4. Faculty member in a university or a higher learning institution in Malaysia and eligible for sabbatical or other leaves.

5. An excellent record of achievement as indicated by quality publications and professional activities.

6. Proficiency in English appropriate to proposed lecturing or research project to be carried out in the United States;

7. A detailed statement of proposed activity for research or lecturing at a U.S. institution. The proposed project should contribute to the development of knowledge in your field and must be effectively investigated within the period of grant.

8. Certification of good health

9. While not limited to specific fields, research proposals from candidates applying for this award related to MACEE's 5 traditional themes : American studies, Malaysian studies, Islamic studies, issues in contemporary society, economics and technology transfer, and International Relations, will be given preference.

Research in other fields of study may also be considered. Although not precluded from applying in recent years the Commission has expressed increasingly less interest in supporting research in medical fields.

In addition applicants should note that the following conditions affecting review and selection of candidates:

1. Applicants will be considered without regard to race, religion, sex, age and/ or physical impairment.

2. Preference is given to those without recent experience in the United States.

3. Applicants should be representative and responsible citizens who can contribute to a full and fair picture of the culture of Malaysia and thereby contribute to understanding between the people of the United State and Malaysia. You should also demonstrate the cross-cultural sensitivity and flexibility needed to adjust successfully to life in the United States.

Applicants are requested to note some of the most frequent application problems:

1. Lack of an adequate research proposal. This is the single most common weakness of applications and the one that reflects most seriously on the applicant's prospects for placement. Applicants must have a well-thought-out plan for research that demonstrates knowledge of the field in general, as well as scientific methods for approaching the subject and knowledge of sources of data in the United States.

2. Selection of a proposed host institution without providing rationale or copies of correspondence or not mentioning any preference for affiliation.

3. Lack of knowledge of English or of a plan to acquire a working level of English before beginning the grant.

4. Lack of a curriculum vitae and list of publications.

5. Proposing visits to numerous institutions.6. Proposing a nonacademic host institution without including a clear justification with sufficient details. 

Value of scholarship: The Malaysian Scholar grant augments the privileges normally accorded by the home institution to its staff members on sabbatical or other leave. The program also solicits the cooperation of the U.S. host institutions which may invite grantees to conduct research / lecturing using their facilities.

It will enhance the application and assist the selection process if candidates have already examined appropriate affiliation at a U.S. institution. Cost-sharing from candidates or the home institution is encouraged as this enables MACEE to offer Fulbright grant to more candidates.

Application format:Applicant from Malaysian universities and other higher learning institutions are requested to submit their completed application forms through their Vice-Chancellor / Director, or equivalent.

A letter is required from the home University / Institute stating the benefits the applicant is entitled to during the 3-8 month sabbatical or other leave in the United States.

  • Name of scholarship: Malaysia Sheffield Scholarships 2011. 

Field of study: Postgraduate Scholarships e.g. MA, MSc. 

Eligibility and award criteria:You must hold an offer of a study place and begin your postgraduate Taught Masters programme in September 2010.

You must be a Malaysian national or permanently domiciled in Malaysia.

You must be self-funding and classified as overseas for fee purposes.

Value of scholarship: The scholarships are: £1,500 each for students paying fees between £11,490 – £13,300, £2,000 each for students paying fees of £13,301 and upwards. 

Deadline: 01/07/2011. 

Application format: The scholarships will be awarded automatically - no application is required. The scholarships will take the form of a tuition fee reduction.

Scholarship awards are not exchangeable for cash either in part or in full.- These awards are for students joining UCTI programmes in 2011 onwards. Current UCTI students are not eligible to apply.- Students who have not obtained their final results may use their Forecast results to apply.

However, their forecast results must be certified by the School.- Should the student fail to achieve the required actual results after having been awarded a scholarship based on forecast results, the award will be rescinded. All decisions on these scholarship awards are at the discretion of the UCTI Scholarships Committee, and are deemed final.

Scholarship applicants cannot change or substitute courses from one course to another.- Applicants must have the Nationality (Passport) of the Country of Scholarships offered and any Permanent Residence or other status will not be eligible.

Graduate and PHD list of scholarships

  • Name of scholarship: SEARCA Graduate scholarships in Agriculture 2012-13 (Masters and PHD).

Field of study: Agriculture and related fields (including biological sciences, social sciences,economics and statistics, forestry and fisheries, environmental sciences, agro-industrial technology and engineering, biochemistry, and development management).

Eligibility: The scholarship is granted on a yearly basis up to a maximum of four semesters for a master's degree program and six semesters for a doctoral program.

The scholarship is open to nationals of Brunei, Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam who are regular employees of academic or research institutions or government agencies and not older than 35 years old.

For PHD, Any graduate student who is a citizen of any of the 11 SEAMEO member countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam) and pursuing a PhD in agriculture or related sciences from any reputable university is eligible to apply for the scholarship.

The applicant must have already completed his/her course work with an approved dissertation proposal and is ready to conduct the dissertation research.

The applicant’s research must focus on any of SEARCA’s priority thrusts under the broad themes of natural resource management and agricultural competitiveness.

Value of scholarship: The scholarship covers tuition and other school fees; book and supplies allowance; thesis/ dissertation support; insurance and travel (round trip air ticket from home country to study post and local transportation), and a monthly stipend of $500 for food, lodging, and incidental expenses.

The scholarship has no provision for any member of the scholar's family.

The scholar is required to undertake the degree program on a full-time basis and should not engage in any work for pay or accept any other scholarship/ assistantship/ special detail, local and abroad, throughout the period of his/her scholarship award.

However, the scholar may seek additional support from other sources if the financial support for thesis/dissertation work provided by the scholarship is not sufficient to cover all of the necessary expenses for the research.

The scholarship recipient is required to abide by all rules and regulations set by SEARCA in relation to the scholarship award and the requirements of the study post.

The scholarship recipient must be a regular employee of an educational or research institution, or government agency.

Deadline: 30/07/2011.

Application format: Applications may be submitted directly to the Ministry of Education / Higher Education, or to the Ministry where the applicant is employed for preliminary screening.

Applicants are required to submit to SEARCA applications for admission to the Graduate Schools of at least three universities in the list.
